The UK Kidney Association (UKKA) provides renal patients with access to their health data through Patients Know Best (PKB), a secure personal health record. If you're experiencing issues with your account or test results, follow this guide to resolve common problems.

Registering for PKB

To access your kidney health data, you need to register with PKB.

How to register:

  • Visit the UKKA Registration Page for Renal Patients.
  • Follow the instructions to create an account.
  • Ensure your kidney centre has enabled data sharing with UKKA.

If you need assistance, contact your renal unit or email pkb-support@ukkidney.org.

Missing Test Results

PKB notifies you when new results are available. If you haven’t received your results, try the following:

Steps to troubleshoot:

  1. Check with your renal team – Confirm that your test results have been sent to UKKA.
  2. Use PKB to contact your renal unit – Go to "Events & Messages" and select "Send Message".
  3. Contact UKKA support – If your renal unit has sent the data but it's not appearing in PKB, email pkb-support@ukkidney.org with your NHS number and renal unit details.

UKKA will verify:

  • Whether your renal unit sent the results.
  • Whether UKKA forwarded the data to PKB.

Understanding Your Test Results

Your test results include reference ranges provided by UKKA for key indicators, such as:

  • Sodium
  • Haemoglobin
  • Albumin Creatinine Ratio (ACR)
  • Protein/Creatinine Ratio (PCR)
  • Cholesterol
  • HbA1c
  • Phosphate
  • eGFR
  • Creatinine
  • Potassium
  • Urea


Why are reference ranges missing?

Each laboratory has its own reference ranges. Until your healthcare provider sends these to UKKA, PKB may not display them alongside your results.

PKB provides a full personal health record, including:

  • Clinic letters
  • Care plans
  • Medicines
  • Measurements (e.g., weight, blood pressure, pulse, BMI)

If you do not see these details, check with your renal unit to confirm what information they share with UKKA.
